As
animal lover's, our hearts broke last week as we learned about Cecil
the lion who was killed by an American on a hunting trip to Africa.
Understandably, we felt anger, especially because this was a lion who
was supposed to have been protected and was lured out of a national
park.
Anger
can sometimes bring about change but the flip side of this is that if
we are in the emotion of anger we are not in the space of love. The
problem is without love we can't listen to the animals or to each other.
It leaves little space for understanding how healing can occur.
After some reflection, I turned to the animals to ask about
for their perspective about what happened to Cecil and perhaps, what
good can come of it? How can his death to be in vain? What occurred was a conversation with “lions.”
Often with pack animals I will get the “group” point of view, as was the case during this conversation:
Lions: We are a collective so we speak
that way to you about this. Cecil is now OK. He is in heaven. Was it
OK what happened to him? Of course not. This man should feel shame
and regret. However, Cecil's life was a
“sacrifice," and there is bigger picture to all of this.
Me: It feels as though there is a sense
of duty when they talk about Cecil's life being a “sacrifice.” They are are
saying, “it is what it is,” but not in a cavalier way. Animals
often feel that as long as a being fulfills their purpose, that is
what is important. Focusing on the events of that individuals
passing is not something I find that animals do to the same degree as
humans.
Lions: Cecil raises awareness not just
about our species going away (extinction) but for humans to feel
deeply and passionately about this. It's about the heart. To get back
to your hearts. This is what you are missing as humans and have
gotten away from.
You must start to feel again. You see
how you all have come together about this. You felt something together,
collectively, like us. You are living so separately. Of course all
factors work together because Americans need to start connecting on
this level to each other. So, therefore, the cause of Cecil's death
was an American.
Me: Side note: So you might be asking,
“they know what an American is?” Animals sense energy in a big
way. Here they are speaking about a certain kind of energy that they
are connecting to this individual who killed Cecil. Animals are
extremely sensitive and not restricted by human thoughts about how we
obtain understanding of something or someone. They just “know.”
Humans also do this but do not listen to or acknowledge it as much. That is the an essential part of animal communication.
You know, that you know, that you know. So the lions understand "American" as a group of people sharing a certain kind of energy.
Lions: Our planet, it is healed by
collective love. You must come together. This can't be done by just a
handful of people being a part of it.
Me: Is there any one issue you are
referring to?
Lions: You must love one another.
Nothing is going go get better until you do this. Love the ugly, the
broken, the sick, the dying. The ones you don't want to love. Let go
of your masks and your egos. Drop them.
Love the man who did this. You can be angry with him but you must also seek to forgive him in order for healing to occur. .
Me: They show me an image of humans
grabbing each other's hands. Connecting.
Lions: See how you all connected over
this (Cecil)? You need to do this going forward. You must do this,
now!
Me: Why now?
Lions: Because our world is getting
more sick. Love will change that. Yelling at each
won't help. We are powerful beings. We got your attention. If we can
be harmed with our beauty and size by anger and greed then imagine
how you harm one another with the same?
