Deagan made it very clear that this is
his “topic” to talk about.
When I asked Deagan's human mom if it
would be ok to blog about how he feels having three legs (his right
front arm was surgically removed due to a sarcoma) she began to talk
about how he dealt with the removal. Deagan interrupted and said that
he wanted to speak. So here is Deagan!
Deagan: I show people that I am free.
Other people see me and how I am and it makes them feel hopeful. If I
can be happy with one leg than they can move past their limited
beliefs about what it important.
Anne: I knew from massaging Deagan that
there was some muscle tension from compensation but I ask him if it
ever can become painful?
Deagan: I may move a bit slower is all.
I rest and feel better if I get tired.
Anne:What do you want people to know
about you most of all?
Deagan: That I'm happy. I am not
hindered Most of all that my mom doesn't think of me any differently
and doesn't try to limit me. That is very important and I love her
for that.
Anne: Do you have advice for others who
might have been through something similar to you?
Deagan: I try. I would not give up.
When I had surgery I wasn't going to allow them to treat me funny.
Anne: In fact, this is something that
Deagan's mom was talking about when Deagan interrupted and said that
this was his “topic.” How Deagan was very much not allowing
people to coddle him. He was up and moving quickly following surgery.
Deagan: I knew that I needed to show
people that I was OK so that they wouldn't treat me any different.
Just wanted them to keep loving me. Which they did. Tell them to
think of me and know they are perfectly fine no matter what they
might look like.
