Animal communication is a great tool for making changes in the family dynamics. I spoke with a female German Shepherd, Angelina, this evening who's family wanted to ask her thoughts and feelings about adopting a new dog into the home. What follows is an excerpt from this conversation:
Me: So you got to meet Peter this weekend, what did you think of him?
Angelina: I was impressed by him. He was very strong and sure of himself. I liked his energy.
Me: Do you think you would like him to come live with you?
Angelina: It would be good. I think we could play together in the backyard. I would like him to know that he isn't going to dominate everything, though. (Peter had already piped in earlier that he would be the more dominate dog in the house) There are certain things we will need to negotiate. For example, the food zone.
Me: How about the sleep situation?
Angelina: She shows me Peter being sort of 'closed off'. The feeling I get is that, initially, it will be important to have an intro period of time where the two dogs are not alone at night with access to each other while the family is sleeping. I am shown Peter in a separate room kept away from each other by a baby gate while Peter is in a crate.
Me: So you are feeling positive about Peter coming to live with you.
Angelina: Yes. I also get that Angelina's anxiety around men will be reduced with Peter's presence.
So if you're considering adopting a new pet into the family always consider the current animals who live with you and how they might feel about this. Animal communication is a tool that can be used to prepare for combining your current animal/s with a new pet.
