Kitty-in the foreground
Kitty had an especially interesting
behavior that his person, Monica, contacted me to discuss. Monica had had already taken Kitty to the veterinarian and Kitty had no medical issues.
Anne: Kitty, why are you going number two in
the bathtub?
Kitty: Kitty shows me his kitty litter and
says it's unpleasant to him. He clearly does not like touching and
smelling the wet litter that has been urinated on.
Anne: Why do you use the bathtub,
instead?
Kitty: It's clean.
Anne: I ask if a litter that can really
absorb all of the urine that is in the box left by Kitty and his
brother, Thomas, would make a difference?
Kitty: It's too small.
Anne: So do you think if you had another
litter box just for yourself, you would go in the box?
Kitty: I might. Shows me that he REALLY
doesn't like the feeling of wet urine combined with kitty litter.
When I tune in to Kitty to feel what he
feels like in general, my sense is that there is something a little
“off.” Kitty is a cat that has energy going in reverse. There is
a connection between this reversal of energy and behavioral that is
“unusual” in a cat or other animal. This might manifest in the
appearance that the animal behaves in a way that gives the appearance
of confusion or that they are “delayed” in some way.
Regardless
of the cause of the behavior, one technique that can help an animal
with this issue is emotional Freedom technique, or EFT. EFT has
gained popularity in recent years for use in humans but it can also
be effective in helping animals. The human simply acts as a
“surrogate" for the animal. Check out this website for lots of info
on EFT and instructions on how to act as a surrogate for your animal:
